Outreach & Extension programs are established to provide farmers with multiple support services in the aim of enhancing their production, increasing the quality of their produce, and eventually enhance their income opportunities.
The programs include the provision of Pilot Orchards for the most important products in the region of Akkar: Apples, Avocadoes and Cherries.
Emkan NGO is developing these programs by implementing an IPM model whereby it is providing farmers with incentives in order for them to commit to acquiring new capacities, developing best practices and enhancing the quality production process.
Integrated Pest Management (IPM) model
A team of 3 agronomists provides extension services to farmers free of charge in the region based on accurate information gathered from orchards and laboratory soil, water and leaf testing. Intensive consultancy and training are provided and extension manuals and leaflets are developed.
