AKKAR AGRICULTURE CENTER
Akkar Agricultural Center (AAC) is located next to Souk Akkar and covers an area of 22,000 m². The Kuwaiti Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFD) funded the construction of the center for the benefit of the Akkar region. The KFD project endowed the project to Qobbet Shamra Municipality and the Landowner with the aim of providing additional services to the farmers and traders in the Akkar region.

Akkar Agricultural Center (AAC) is located next to Souk Akkar and covers an area of 22,000 m². The Kuwaiti Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFD) funded the construction of the center for the benefit of the Akkar region. The KFD project endowed the project to Qobbet Shamra Municipality and the Landowner with the aim of providing additional services to the farmers and traders in the Akkar region. AAC entails the following units:
- Six cold storage rooms,
- A sorting & packing area,
- A technical & extension facility,
- An administration and management building,
- A potential agro-industry facilities.
Emkan NGO was entrusted with the responsibility to manage and operate the AAC. During its operational period from September 2015 until April 2017, the following summary of activities were carried out:
Since Oct. 2018, the facility was leased to a key exporter of fruits and vegetables from Akkar to the Gulf Countries. The lease is expected to end in 2020, and Emkan is planning to resume operating this facility.
