Emkan NGO engages in community development activities through the implementation of sustainable economic development projects and programs.
Emkan for Sustainable Development is a Lebanese non-governmental organization (NGO) that was initially established in 2008. Emkan engages in community development activities through the implementation of sustainable economic development projects and programs. It aims to improve the income level of marginalized low wage earners, stimulate economic activities, and create job opportunities for low-income groups in urban and rural communities, including youth and women.
Emkan’s development was based on best practices derived from multiple sectors, to be able to cover its wide array of activities. Our organization grows and adapts constantly as it includes fluidity and resiliency as part of its foundational pillars.
In light of the worsening economic crisis in Lebanon, scarce work opportunities, the decline of the Lebanese currency, inflation, port blast, absence of government, consecutive natural and manmade disasters, fuel and basic goods crisis, and the Covid-19 crisis, Lebanon is witnessing its most tragic era and decline. More than 75% of the entire population are below the poverty, food prices soared by more than 600% while the minimum wage fell below 50 USD. In response, Emkan & Beirut for Social Development launched a wide charitable activity aimed at helping the people of Lebanon in all available means and fields.
