About us
Emkan
for Sustainable Development is a Lebanese non-governmental organization (NGO)
that was initially established in 2008. Emkan engages in community development
activities through the implementation of sustainable economic development
projects and programs. It aims to improve the income level of marginalized low
wage earners, stimulate economic activities, and create job opportunities for
low-income groups in urban and rural communities, including youth and women.
Emkan’s development
was based on best practices derived from multiple sectors, to be able to cover
its wide array of activities. Our organization grows and adapts constantly as
it includes fluidity and resiliency as part of its foundational pillars.
In light of the worsening economic crisis in
Lebanon, scarce work opportunities, the decline of the Lebanese currency,
inflation, port blast, absence of government, consecutive natural and manmade
disasters, fuel and basic goods crisis, and the Covid-19 crisis, Lebanon is
witnessing its most tragic era and decline. More than 75% of the entire
population are below the poverty, food prices soared by more than 600% while
the minimum wage fell below 50 USD. In response, Emkan & Beirut for Social
Development launched a wide charitable activity aimed at helping the people of
Lebanon in all available means and fields.
Emkan’s strategy aims to realize its vision and goals using minimum resources at the same time achieving greatest results, all within the fastest time frame possible. Given that the current economic crisis is affecting most of the Lebanese population, our strategy also aims to successfully cover the biggest number of beneficiaries.
The strategy is based on the development of current assets, acquiring new assets, creating well placed projects and network the proposed projects to provide best synergies, sustainability, greatest and long-lasting impact, reduce costs, increase production and improve its quality. Emkan’s strategy was developed by a team of expert consultants, the strategy carefully attends to each area differently according to its specific needs and production potential.
The strategy concludes with a 5 years plan that covers multiple interconnected cycles. The strategy includes priority planning, budgeting, SWOT analysis, risk analysis and an action plan.
